Information Meetings Set For 2009 Bush Leadership Fellows Program

INFORMATION MEETINGS SET FOR 2009 BUSH LEADERSHIP FELLOWS PROGRAM Do you have what it takes to become an even stronger leader? If so, a Bush Leadership Fellowship could be right for you, as it has been for nearly 1,300 fellows since 1965. The Bush Leadership Fellows Program provides significant financial support for education or self-designed study for individuals at mid-career who want to prepare themselves for greater leadership responsibilities within their communities and professions. Regional information meetings for the 2009 program begin April 22 at 7 p.m. in Rochester, Minn. at the Rochester Public Library. These spring meetings replace ones previously held in the fall.

Potential applicants are welcome to attend a meeting to learn more about the program and to ask questions. Registration is not necessary. Applicants must have lived or worked for at least a year immediately prior to the application deadline in Minnesota, North Dakota or South Dakota. They must be at least 28 years old and U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The deadline for 2009 applications is October 13, 2008; check www.bushfoundation.org for eligibility criteria. Applications will be available online after May 31, 2008.

Since 1965, the Foundation has selected about 20 Leadership Fellows per year from roughly 125 applicants. The program is dedicated to the development of leadership skills in people with high potential and was initiated by one of the original executives of the 3M Corporation, Archibald G. Bush, who in 1953 created the Bush Foundation with his wife Edyth.

The Bush Foundation is a private grantmaking organization that made grants of approximately $40 million in 2007 to support programs and efforts to sustain communities in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. With a mission to improve the quality of life in this region, the Foundation aims to be a catalyst to shape vibrant communities by investing in courageous and effective leadership that significantly strengthens and improves the well-being of the region’s people.
