Bush Leadership Fellows Program Announces New Online Information Sessions

August 19, 2009—

In order to better reach potential applicants for Bush Leadership Fellowships across Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, the Bush Leadership Fellows (BLF) Program will offer six online information sessions beginning August 27 and ending on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. (central time) on Monday, October 12, 2009.

Each online session is about an hour in length and allows interested parties who have an Internet connection and separate phone line to have live, real-time interaction with a representative of the BLF Program. Registration is required.

Online information sessions for 2010 fellowships are scheduled for noon (central time) on:
  • Thursday, August 27
  • Thursday, September 10
  • Tuesday, September 15
  • Tuesday, September 22
  • Tuesday, September 29
  • Tuesday, October 6

The BLF Program provides significant financial support for academic or self-designed study for individuals who want to prepare themselves for greater leadership responsibilities within their communities and professions. Applicants must have lived or worked for at least a year immediately prior to the application deadline in Minnesota, North Dakota or South Dakota. They must be at least 28 years old and U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Communities or organizations interested in sponsoring an on-site information meeting should contact Martha Lee of the BLF Program at (651) 227-0891 to learn more.

Since 1965, the Bush Leadership Fellows Program has selected about 20 fellows per year from roughly 125 applicants. The BLF program is dedicated to the development of leadership skills in people with high potential and was initiated by one of the original executives of the 3M Corporation, Archibald G. Bush, who in 1953 created the Bush Foundation with his wife Edyth.

The Foundation strives to be a catalyst to shape vibrant communities in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota by investing in courageous and effective leadership that significantly strengthens and improves the well-being of people in these three states. In 2009, the Bush Foundation is pursuing its Goals for a Decade—in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota to develop courageous leaders and engage entire communities in solving problems, to support the self-determination of Native nations and to increase educational achievement.
