2008 Enduring Vision Award Recipients Announced -- $100,000 Grants Given to Frank Big Bear, Janel Jacobson and Walter Piehl Jr.

Nomination & Selection Process

The Enduring Vision Awards are selected through a rigorous multi-step process involving an initial nomination of eligible artists, a selection of finalists by an intergenerational and interdisciplinary regional panel, and a final selection by the national panel also serving for the Bush Artist Fellowships.

Selection committees will consider the breadth and depth of the artists’ past creative accomplishments and the promise of continued future artistic excellence, their commitment to the work, the strength and energy of their vision, and how the artists will continue to enrich their particular fields of work.

The selection committees will look for evidence that the artist is pursuing deeper investigations and/or new explorations that will inform and enrich their work. The committees also will give consideration to artists fulfilling these criteria, but whose work has been under recognized.

The regional preliminary panel will meet in January to select 10 individuals to receive invitations to submit work samples and a complete application. A total of no more than three Award recipients will be selected in April 2009 by the national interdisciplinary selection committee.
