Over the course of two years, artists from North Dakota and South Dakota collaborated with the Bush Foundation to explore new ways of supporting the professional development of artists in the region through the Dakota Creative Connections grant program

Fellowship Plan: To pursue a master's degree in history with a specialization in the African diaspora at Howard University.
Long-Term Goal: To utilize existing networks of individuals, to establish partnerships between institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations, and to create and implement curriculum to bridge academic achievement gaps with low-achieving students of color.
Johnson is the multicultural outreach coordinator at the College of St. Catherine. She foresees a future where education students who are studying to be K-12 teachers have a stronger understanding of how historical oppression can play a significant role in their own students’ achievement, particularly for low-achieving students of color. Johnson will attend Howard University to pursue a master’s degree in history, specializing in the African diaspora.
