Leadership Applications

Thank you for your interest in the Bush Leadership Fellows Program. In your application we invite you to tell us:

  • Who you are;
  • What you’ve done and how you’ve been a leader;
  • What you care about;
  • What you hope your future leadership contributions are; and
  • How you need to grow as a leader in order to make those future contributions.

Many past applicants have told us that the time they spent preparing their fellowship applications helped them think through the next stages of their careers and personal lives. We hope that preparing your Leadership fellowship application will be equally useful to you.

Online Application Instructions

Before starting the application we strongly recommend that you print out and carefully review the online application instructions. These instructions will provide you with important information for completing the application including how to create an account, which is required in order to complete the application and retrieve it if you work on it over time by clicking the “Save and Finish Later” button. Click on the following link to download the instructions.

What To Submit: The Bush Leadership Fellows Application

We now have an online application making it unnecessary for you to mail in a paper application. Instead, you will only have to click on the ‘Review & Submit’ button in the application software.

The application uses HTML format, so you cannot use spell check while filling it out. However, you can cut and paste into the application fields content that you drafted in Microsoft Word or similar programs where spell check is permissible. Also, at any time you can click on the ‘Printer Friendly Version’ button and you will get a paper copy of the entire application for you to review; share with mentors and/or reference writers; and keep on file. You may find it helpful to click on the following link to download a printed copy of all of the application questions to review before starting the application.

The Bush Leadership Fellows application consists of an online application that is completed and submitted by you as well as three reference forms, which are completed by individuals you select. Your application and three references are due by the end of the day on October 13. Once the deadline passes, the application and reference form will no longer be available. Before you can begin the application, you will need to create a password-protected account, which will ensure privacy and allow you to work on your application over time.

To create your account and begin the application CLICK HERE.

References

You are allowed only three references and they are due on October 13. Your reference writers should help you make your case. They should be prepared to discuss:

  • Your strengths, weaknesses and potential;
  • Your proposed goals and the impact of achieving them; and
  • Your fellowship plan – how it will help you achieve your goals and help you grow as a leader.

We suggest the following criteria for selecting your reference writers:

  • Current or past supervisor
  • A person in a leadership position
  • A mentor or academic advisor

To access the reference form and email it to your references click on the following link.
