Academic Program

Planning an Academic Program

  • Investigate several academic programs that you believe would best prepare you to meet your proposed leadership goals.
  • Determine your preferred program and at least one alternate. Be prepared to articulate the connection between your proposed plan and goals and discuss educational content.
  • Inform the programs you are applying to that you also are applying for a fellowship.
  • Investigate the admission timelines and requirements of your proposed programs. It is important to pay close attention to whether your proposed program(s) require a standardized test such as the GRE or GMAT as part of the admission process. If so, start preparing for those tests as soon as possible.
  • If you will not complete the degree requirements within the time frame of the fellowship have a plan for how you will complete the degree once the fellowship ends.
  • If you hope to use a fellowship to complete an academic program that you previously suspended, contact someone in the program to discuss with them what steps you need to take to resume your participation.
  • If you plan to apply for a fellowship to complete an academic-degree program that you have been pursuing on a part-time basis, discuss your plans for the fellowship with your academic advisor. It is especially important to find out if you can participate in the program as a full-time student with a fellowship.
