Planning a Self-Designed Study Program

Applicants proposing to use a fellowship to pursue a self-designed study program should be prepared to answer the following questions:

  • What are the leadership goals this program is designed to help you achieve?
  • By what methods will you achieve your leadership goals? What activity or combination of activities such as reading, course work, interviews, site visits, internships, apprenticeships and executive programs do you propose for your fellowship? Be as specific as possible about the locations and schedules for these activities.
  • What knowledge and skills will you gain from pursuing your fellowship plan to help you achieve your goals?
  • How will you document your progress? Some possibilities include a daily journal, monthly reports to the Bush Leadership Fellows Program and your advisors or writing a blog.
  • At the end of your fellowship how will you evaluate the results of your fellowship?
